ASHMEADS KERNEL, EATING(DESSERT) APPLE TREE-Malus domestica ASHMEADS KERNEL

A very old established variety raised by Dr Ashmead of Gloucester in the early 17th century. Ashmeads Kernel wins few points for beauty, the aromatic fruits are slightly flattened and are often lumpy and misshapen. These pale green-yellow apples are almost entirely covered with a mid brown russet and have a rather dull appearance, this apple tree has cosmetic issues!
The firm creamy white flesh (sometimes stained pink) of this ugly duckling has an intense sweet-sharp flavour reminiscent of acid drops and is quite unlike any other variety explaining why this apple has stood the test of time.
Although primarily an eating (dessert) variety, Ashmeads Kernel is a versatile Apple tree. The uniquely flavoured apples make excellent juice or can be used for cooking and cider making. Ready for picking October-January.

We supply Ashmeads Kernel as one year old (maiden)-link to plant size guide, bare rooted Apple trees grafted onto an MM106 rootstock. This will make an upright spreading tree with an ultimate height of approximately 10-12ft. Ashmeads Kernel is a reliable and regular cropper on all but cold exposed sites.
