BLACK, MULBERRY – Morus nigra MULBERRY BLACK

Introduced to Europe from Asia in Roman times the Black Mulberry trees are very attractive with heart shaped large mid green leaves that are rough to touch on the upper surface and downy underneath. The dark red fruit of the Black Mulberry can be ready to pick in September and is very juicy with a sweet slightly acidic flavour when eaten fresh from the tree or can be used to make jam. These slow growing but hardy Mulberry trees prefer to be planted in a well drained and sunny site. The fruits dropping from the tree can stain and are best planted away from paths and drives, when harvesting spread a sheet under the branches and shake the tree gently. The RHS have given the Garden of Merit Award to the Black Mulberry tree.

We supply Black Mulberry at 3-4ft in height in 3 litre pots. The Black Mulberry tree is not grafted and is therefore grown on its own roots.
