A hardy tree with a spreading habit that can thrive in difficult conditions. The heavy crops of large plum sized yellow fleshed fruit have a lovely purple blue bloom to their skin. Harvested in late August they can be eaten raw, used for jams etc and are good for making damson gin /brandy!

MERRYWEATHER DAMSON TREE (DESSERT) CULINARY DAMSON TREE-Prunus insititia MERRYWEATHER
Named after the nursery where it was raised in Southwell Nottinghamshire. In 1907 the year this Damson tree was introduced it also received the RHS Award of Merit and was also awarded a First Class Certificate in 1913. The Merryweather Damson tree produces an unusually large fruit for a damson which is blue black in colour with a paler blue bloom. The heavy crops of the Merryweather can be eaten straight from the tree or are excellent for cooking in jams and pickles. This fruits of this particular Damson tree are also suitable for freezing.
POLLINATION: The Merryweather Damson tree is self fertile and therefore needs no others pollinators.
We supply Merryweather as one year old (maiden)-link to plant size guide bare rooted Damson trees grafted onto St Julian A rootstock. This will make a compact Damson tree with an ultimate height of approximately 10-12ft.
