Familiar vigorous deciduous native shrub with large flat clusters of white flowers in early summer followed by by bunches of small shiny black elderberries. A good plant for attracting wildlife and will grow in most situations, especially very chalky sites and coastal areas. Flowers and fruits are used in wine making.
