Medium sized evergreen tree with very distinctive pale greyish-green foliage arranged on horizontal tiered branches. The smooth grey bark becomes rough and fissured on older trees. The deep blackish purple cones sit upright on the branches and may be up to 6 ins in length. A fine and very architectural tree that also finds use for timber, paper manufacture and as a Christmas tree.
