Deschampsia Grasses

Deschampsia (Tufted Hair Grass)

Grown for their bold clumps of evergreen foliage, each Summer these handsome grasses erupt with a cloud of tiny silvery flowers held on strong arching stems, as the seasons progress the colours change to soft golden hues that sway in the breeze and catch the light.

These are one of the showiest ornamental grasses and have a wealth of uses either with other shapes, sizes and colours of grasses, or mixed with other flowering plants and they are perfect for softening the lines in any garden. Its no surprise that these tough and versatile grasses are often close to the top of many garden designers wish lists.

Deschampsia Goldtau is a first class and smaller growing variety, better suited to smaller spaces while Deschampsia Cespitosa is the beautiful ‘full fat’ version with its taller and bolder, yet graceful form.

Deschampsia is an evergreen grass, they need very little maintenance other than a ‘comb’ through the old foliage removing dead leaves as necessary in late winter, before growth begins again in Spring.
