Dogwood Yellow Stem (Cornus Sericea Flaviramea) is a particularly large deciduous shrub that has beautiful bright, yellow stems that brighten up any dreary winter’s day. With green leaves encompassed with tiny clusters of white flowers during the balmy, summer months, you can expect these to change colour for a spectacular autumnal display of oranges and red, followed by white berries from the pollinated flowers.

This woody, creeping perennial hedge loves to be planted in either loam, clay, chalk or sandy soil that is moist but well drained. Dogwood Yellow Stem hedging also loves to reside in either partial shade or full sunlight, and doesn’t mind being sheltered or exposed to the elements.

It can reach its optimal height in five to ten years from being planted, and does grow relatively quickly each year. It can reach heights of one and a half to two and a half metres tall, and between two and a half to four metres wide. The joys of the Dogwood hedge is that you don’t have to prune them regularly, however the younger the shoots the brighter and more vibrant colour pay off you’ll have on the stems. If you want the following winter’s stem colour to be brighter, then prune back in spring after the final frost. When it comes to planting, we would recommend planting each of these hedges two to two and a half feet apart.
