Euonymus Blondy (Euonymus fortunei Blondy) Japanese Spindle

A plucky little evergreen shrub, the new leaves that emerge bright green with a large central splasy of bright golden yellow. As the growth matures the green darkens and the yellow becomes paler and more creamy yellow giving a lovely contrast, This is a colourful evergreen that looks great in all seasons growing into a neat mound of foliage.

Euonymus fortunei Blondy has many potential uses in the garden, this is a great little ground cover plant in beds, borders and more difficult areas  that will grow happily in any situation from full sun to moderate shade, quickly covering the soil to create a low maintenance carpet. Its eye catching foliage and modest growth makes it a good choice for containers especially mixed with other flowering or foliage plants for contrast.

Blondy is also suitable for a small decorative evergreen hedge where its showy foliage will bring interest and structure to your design all year, Euonymus is one of many Box hedge alternatives and can be manintained at a height of 30-60cm, ideal for a path edging or parterre.  We recommend that a Euonymus Blondy hedge is planted using 3-5 plants per metre, the young shrubs will develop quite quickly with a little formative side trimming. Once the hedge has reached its desired size a single trim each Spring should keep it looking good.

Euonymus Blondy grows well in any well drained soil, these colourful little plants are easy to grow in most situations that dont become waterlogged in the Winter months, like other Euonymus varieties they also grow very well by the sea.
