Euonymus Japonicus Microphyllus Albovariegatus Hedging
Euonymus japonicus microphyllus Albovariegatus (Japanese Spindle)
A little shrub with such a long name! (japonicus is the section of the Euonymus family it belongs to, microphyllus means it has tiny leaves and Albovariegatus describes its leaf colour) This is a dwarf variety of Euonymus japonicus and has neat little elongated evergreen leaves of 2cm or so, deep glossy green in colour with a narrow edging of creamy white. Euonymus Microphyllus Albovariegatus has bushy upright growth that looks neat and tidy all year.
This is a great little shrub for bringing interest and modest height into flowerbeds or even larger rockeries, they grow very well in containers and being a shade tolerant shrub its useful for brightening darker corners of your plot. With an upright habit this is also a useful little hedging plant, by planting 3-5 plants per metre a decorative evergreen hedge of 40-100cm can be easily grown in sun or partial shade. This is a worthy alternartive to Box hedging if you have blight.
Euonymus microphyllus Albovariegatus is easy to grow, they thrive in all soil types but do like good drainange. Hedges and the occasional wayward stems of solitary shrubs are best trimmed in Spring. This is also a good choice for coastal gardens as they dont mind the salty air. Whe planting we recommend you add Rootgrow to the holes to give the young shrubs the best start.
