Pieris Forest Flame
A popular and well loved evergreen shrub grown for its brilliant fiery red young growths that appear in late Spring, as the new growth matures it turns through hues of pink, creamy white, yellow and finally dark green. Densely packed clusters of nodding lily-of-the-valley flowers develop before the onset of Winter and finally open from March until May, they are very popular with pollinating insects. Ideal for creating a bold splash of colour in mixed borders, containers (filled with ericaceous compost) or the dappled shade of the woodland garden where they pair nicely with Azaleas and Rhododendrons. 3m x 2m

Pieris Forest Flame prefers the same conditions as Azaleas and Rhododendrons – well drained humus rich acidic soil that retains some moisture during the summer. For best results plant away from exposed north or eastern aspects where the soft young growth may be damaged by strong winds or late frosts.
Pieris will thrive in sun or partial shade. Pruning is not normally necessary although the spent flowerheads may be removed after they have faded to maintain a tidy appearance.
