The large green leaves which have purplish hues in winter, are the perfect backdrop for the tall wiry reddish stemmed blooms that appear late winter and early spring. This tough spectacular architectural plant will benefit any garden providing both colour and points of interest wherever planted.

Bergenia is hardy and easy to grow and tolerant of any soil. Growing in poor soil may stunt the growth a little but can enhance the winter colour making them even more dramatic and outstanding. They are forgiving of wide temperature changes from very cold freezing climates to very warm.  It will grow in full sun or partial shade bringing colour and life to those less forgiving areas. The plants are clump forming and will gently spread from about 0.5 metres to 1 metre filling out nicely in herbaceous borders.

As with all pot plants there is the lack of root disturbance means you can plant at any time of the year. If the plants have arrived and you find that it is not convenient to plant straightaway then just keep watered and plant when timing is not an issue.
