If you want to create an impact within your landscaping project or need to buy hedges/trees in bulk, then buying bare-root hedges is the best and most economical way of doing so.
Bare root hedging are field grown plants that are lifted from the ground when dormant (November-April) with the soil shaken off and sent to you the same day. Because we don’t need pots or compost and far less fertiliser and water these are a low input crop and are therefore very economical. Delivery is also free on orders over £50!
We stock a variety of bare-root hedges to suit all requirements and budgets, however they can only be sold during the time they hibernate and lay dormant. This is normally from November through to April. We grow these hedges in the soil in our fields on our 70-acre, family run nursery. We care for each individual plant, tending to any specific needs it may have, giving it the best start in life, so we can provide you with the best quality plants. When it comes to planting these hedges, the density to which you plant them is completely up to you, based on the desired effect you would like and your budget. When it comes to planting these hedges, the density to which you plant them is completely up to you, based on the desired effect you would like and your budget. We would suggest planting a double, staggered row, with five to seven plants in each metre, to provide you with a bushy, dense hedge, in the fastest possible way. Planting a single row with three to five plants will still provide good coverage too, just at a slower rate, so patience is necessary. Some customers choose to order a few spares and pop them in the veg patch/flower border to replace the occasional failed plant which should be expected. (Bare rooted plants should achieve a ‘take’ of 95% or more so it is worth adding a few extras into your calculations when ordering to infill the occasional gap later).
Should a higher rate of plants fail we would normally offer to replace these at half price plus our usual delivery charge as a gesture of goodwill. Please bear in mind that each plant does have different planting requirements, so why not take a look at each variety’s own page for more specific details you may need?
