The flowers of Geranium Bevans Variety create a striking display, while the scented leaves provide additional interest throughout the growing season and often develop attractive red and bronze tints in autumn. As an excellent ground cover plant, it quickly forms a dense mat of foliage that helps suppress weeds and brings year-round structure to the garden.
Geranium ‘Bevan’s Variety’ is particularly useful for planting beneath trees and shrubs, where its vigorous growth and tolerance of dry shade allow it to thrive in challenging conditions. It is equally at home in woodland gardens, cottage garden borders and informal planting schemes, where its vivid flowers combine beautifully with ferns, Hostas, Pulmonarias and other shade-tolerant perennials. The nectar-rich blooms are also attractive to bees and other pollinating insects, adding wildlife value to the garden.
Exceptionally easy to grow and low maintenance, Geranium macrorrhizum ‘Bevan’s Variety’ performs well in a wide range of soils, provided they are reasonably well drained. It thrives in partial shade but will also tolerate full shade and sunnier positions if the soil remains moist. Once established, it is notably drought tolerant and requires very little attention beyond occasional tidying and division when required.
