Fuchsia Mrs Popple Hedging

Fuchsia Mrs Popple (Hardy Fuchsia)

If theres a gorgeous, large Fuchsia shrub looking fabulous flowering away for months on end in a garden you know, and no one knows which variety is is because its ‘always been there’….. then theres a very good chance that this is the variety! Fuchsia Mrs Popple has showy deep purple and scarlet single flowers, popping up continuously from June until October against strong, healthy deep green elongated foliage that is bronzy coloured when young. This is a really tough and reliable old variety and certainly one of the best Hardy Fuchsias.

The Hardy Fuchsia Mrs Popple has many uses, add them to a shrub or mixed border where there foliage and flower colour will bring interest all season long, or plant them in a good sized container (our plants are already well established in 2 litre pots) for a prize specimen that will look great on a patio or terrace. Like all of our Hardy Fuchsia varieties this also makes a delightful flowering hedge of 100cm or so, simply plant 3-4 plants per metre and our strong bushy plants will soon develop to make a fantastic hedge feature or screen in your garden with flower and foliage interest from Spring until Autumn.

Fuchsia Mrs Popple grows well out in the garden in any good well drained soil, these are hardy shrubs but a cold winter and hard frosts may well kill of the top growth back to ground level, new growth will emerge from the base in Spring, probably even stronger than before. This is not something to be disheartened about, the most important thing is to get a strong and healthy root system established from which the new growths will emerge. As we can never predict what kind of Winter is in store each year, we recommend pruning Hardy Fuchsia Mrs Popple shrubs in the spring, even if the top does get killed off over Winter, it will still provide useful protection for the crown of the plant and is best left in situ until the longer, warmer days return. This reliable Hardy Fuchsia is a very good plant for seaside gardens.
