Very low maintenance, Convolvulus Cneorum shrubs will look wonderful in a rockery, trailing over a wall or in a hot sunny, well-drained border. Try planting with Lavender, Perovskia, Geranium Brookside or Geranium Rozanne as blues and purples compliment the silvery foliage and cool white flowers of the Convolvulus Cneorum. They will also keep bees and other pollinators happy with its nectar pollen rich flowers!
Happiest in full sun, Convolvulus Cneorum ground cover prefers free-draining soil and will perform well in poor, stony ground. Avoid planting in heavy, wet or overly fertile soils or where they sit in frost pockets or strong winds. Low maintenance, it will tolerate chalky soil and salty air. Best planted in Spring when the warm soil helps the roots establish swiftly, however if planting in Summer, water regularly to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. This super little plant will grow slowly to a mound of about 60cm but keep it to around 30-40cm with a hard prune in the Summer after flowering and it will remain beautifully compact and bushy.
As a rough guide when planting Convolvulus Cneorum as ground cover – 4 plants per square metre is adequate with a little patience, 6 will give better coverage, and 9-12 will make a weed supressing carpet very quickly.
