Mahonia Nitens Cabaret Shrubs
Mahonia nitens Cabaret (Oregon Grape)
An interesting new introduction, similar in many respects to a standard Mahonia shrub except growth is much more compact (120cm x 80cm). The flowers appear as colourful and tantalising orange buds borne in profusion along slender racemes. They finally open to reveal yellow flowers during late Summer and Autumn that are followed by blue-grey berries that are popular with birds. The glossy foliage is holly-like, catching the light during the short Winter days.
Mahonia nitens Cabaret is a versatile evergreen suited to sun or partial shade and would be a great Autumn flowering addition to the shrub border. They would also be effective paired with lower evergreen ground cover for a great looking, low maintenance design.

Mahonia nitens Cabaret is a low maintenance evergreen shrub, pruning is not normally necessary although any long or straggly shoots could be removed in early Spring. Mahonia plants benefit from a generous mulch of well rotted compost applied in spring.
