Regularly spotted in native hedgerows across the countryside, the Guelder Rose (Viburnum opulus) has three great qualities to it. Not only does it have beautiful leaves shaped like maple leaves, that turn a fantastic shade of red come autumn, but they produce gorgeous, white, lace-cap flowers, that starts towards the end of spring and run through until early summer. These are followed by translucent red berries, which are great at attracting wildlife into your garden, helping to feed the birds and provide a gorgeous accompaniment to the red leaves.
The Guelder Rose is a tough, sturdy shrub or small tree that works well in gardens that have more of a woodland nature. It also works especially well as a shrub border. They, like most plants and trees are deciduous, so do lose their leaves towards the end of autumn.
It can grow very tall, and reach heights of 13 to 16 feet at its tallest, making it an excellent choice for a hedgerow. It grows at its best on moist soils, but due to its sturdiness Guelder Rose plants can withstand most soil types.
As with all of our plants here at Hopes Grove, our Guelder Rose shrubs come from our very own family-run nursery in Kent. This helps us to make sure that the Guelder Rose hedging plants you buy will settle, bloom and establish itself easily, when you plant them in your garden.

One of our most beautiful native shrubs, the maple-like foliage is a foil for the lacecap flowers that develop into translucent shiney berries, a must for any native mixed hedge.
