Pheasant Tail Grass is perfect for creating a naturalistic look in mixed borders, prairie-style planting schemes and contemporary gardens. Its arching habit softens hard edges and complements both flowering perennials and shrubs. The foliage catches the light beautifully and responds to changes in temperature, developing richer bronze and amber tones during autumn and winter. Its airy structure also provides valuable shelter for wildlife and adds movement whenever there is the slightest breeze.

Anemanthele lessoniana offers an excellent ground cover option as established plants gradually form generous clumps that help suppress weeds while providing attractive year-round coverage. Its versatility makes it suitable for a wide range of planting schemes, whether used in large drifts or as a feature among other ornamental grasses and perennials.

Anemanthele is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance once established. It thrives in fertile, well-drained soil and performs best in full sun, although it will tolerate partial shade. Water regularly during its first growing season to help establish a strong root system. Remove any dead or damaged foliage in spring to keep plants looking their best and divide overcrowded clumps every few years if required.

As a rough guide when planting Anemanthele lessoniana as ground cover, 3-4 plants per square metre will provide coverage with a little patience, whilst 5-7 plants per square metre will create a dense, flowing display much more quickly.
