Calamagrostis X Acutiflora Karl Foerster Grasses
Calamagrostis x Acutiflora Karl Foerster (Feather Reed Grass)
A beautiful and very architectural grass, stiffly upright growth of slender green foliage from which tall vertical flower stems emerge during Summer and Autumn, silvery with purple tints at first before turning to a gorgeous wheat brown colour later in the season. The whole plant turns to these same hues by the Autumn and gives continued interest right through the Winter months.
This is a very effective grass for softening hard landscape features and buildings, especially if there is space for larger groups. Use them to bring height into mixed borders, they also make a wonderful feathery screen that moves in the breeze.
This is a truly easy grass to grow, ideal for beginners and experts alike. Any kind of dry or wet soil, in sun or partial shade. We won’t say completely indestructible…..but not far off!

Calamagrostis Karl Foerster is a deciduous grass, the old foliage should be left over the Winter as this will protect the crown of the plant from inclement weather conditions and will still provide structure and interest, especially on frosty days. Cut them back close to the ground in February or March before the new foliage emerges. The cut stems and foliage is useful as a natural mulch or may be composted.
