Liriope Grasses

Liriope (Lily Turf)

There aren’t many plants that will grow at their best in partial or full shade, and look great all year – and then as a bonus provide a wealth of elegant and colourful flowers from August until October or November. Welcome to the Lily Turf family!

Liriope are really useful to bring colour to the front of beds and borders when many other plants are past their best, they love shade so are ideal for underplanting around larger plants and they can look particularly effective in formal garden designs such as courtyards as they always seem to look good. Larger groups make very striking and ornamental ground cover either on their own or with other colours, perfect for cheering darker and more difficult corners of the garden. They are also well suited to containers.

Easy to grow in partial or full shade, they prefer a well drained soil. These elegant little plants can also be grown in full sun although we would advise a mulch in the Spring to conserve moisture in the absence of any shade.

Liriope is an evergreen grass-like perennial, they need very little maintenance other than a ‘comb’ through the old foliage removing dead leaves in late Winter before growth begins again in Spring.
