A very easy and amenable grass suitable for sun or partial shade, evergreen hummocks of grey green foliage support wiry upright stems of silvery-white flower spikes that pop up from June until October, opening to creamy white. The foliage becomes a paler chartreuse green colour by Autumn.
This is a wonderful grass to include in your garden design, each plant is rather like the green blob of an artists paintbrush so they can be used in small groups to punctuate different areas of planting, for lining the edge of paths and other areas in sun or shade or simply in larger blocks to provide low maintenance ground cover making a backdrop for bolder colours of adjoining plants.
Sesleria autumnalis is a cool season grass meaning that new growth often comes in the cooler, wetter weather of Spring and Autumn. During the heat of summer the flower spikes will appear, but little new growth. This is an easy plant to grow, most soils are suitable.
