Bergenia Silberlicht Ground Cover
Bergenia Silberlicht (Elephants Ears)
First winning the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit in 1964, Bergenia Silberlicht (Elephants Ears) ground cover are evergreen, with slightly glossy, rounded foliage in a deep green that are tinged reddish purple towards the edges in Autumn. Borne on red-flushed stems, pinkish-white flowers with red centres bloom in Spring, starting white and acquiring pink tones as they mature, and their foliage retains the wonderful purple colour throughout Winter. Perfect for bringing early flowers, and pollinators, to your garden!
Newly popular, mainly due to the number of new varieties available, this versatile, low maintenance plant is ideal planted in groups as ground cover, for edging borders and providing a foil for more delicate foliage plants. Bergenia Silberlicht are also a lovely addition to shady beds or woodland areas – perhaps try planting under Rhododendrons or at the front of beds paired with Ajuga and Anemones.
