Hypericum x hidcoteense Hidcote (St Johns wort)
A reliable and widely planted variety of St Johns wort, Hypericum Hidcote produces a steady succession of waxy bright yellow saucer shaped flowers from Early Summer right through until Late Autumn. The lush green foliage is semi evergreen meaning that many leaves stay on the plant in Winter, but in very cold weather some will be lost and be replaced as the shrub comes into growth the next Spring.
This is a naturally bushy shrub growing to a maximum of 120cm making it a good species for a smaller flowering hedge. Hypericum is a tough plant and they grow well in full sun and partial to moderate shade. Great for mixed beds and borders, also for more difficult areas where the shrubs if planted at 3-5 per square metre will develop into taller ground cover needing little maintenance. Hypericum Hidcote is suitable for all well drained soils, they also grow well by the sea.
