Caryopteris Clandonensis Heavenly Blue Shrubs

Caryopteris Heavenly Blue (Caryopteris x clandonensis Heavenly Blue)

An indespensible and well loved shrub that is seldom overlooked by designers if late season colour is needed, either as a solitary plant or even better in bold drifts to really bring out the intensity of its flowers.

The pointed leaves of Caryopteris Heavenly Blue emerge in spring, grey green and elongated and they are aromatic, especially noticeable if you brush past on a warm summers day. From august onwards fluffy clusters of percing dark blue flowers emerge intermittently along the long upright stems and last well into autumn. This versatile shrub will be a magnet for bees and butterflies when in flower.

Caryopteris are easy to grow having no particular requirements, they do best in a sunny spot in a mixed border and they do like drainage in the winter so waterlogged wet soil isnt suitable, they are however (like many grey-green leaved plants) very drought tolerant once established.

Caryopteris Heavenly Blue can also be planted as a more unusual informal flowering hedge setting the plants at 3 per metre it will develop into a continuous blaze of deep blue each summer attaining around a metre in height. (If this is a little on the tall side we also stock the more compact Caryopteris Grand Bleu)

How to grow Caryopteris Heavenly Blue

Position: Best in full sun.
Foliage: Deciduous, loses leaves in autumn and fresh new leaves appear in spring.
