Lilac (syringa) Katherine Havemeyer Shrubs
Syringa vulgaris Katherine Havemeyer (Lilac)
Densely packed clusters of fully double lilac to lavender-blue flowers emerge from purple buds in late Spring and early Summer, as with all of these Syringa varieties the flowers are wondefully scented and very popular with bees and butterflies.
Syringa Katherine Havemeyer is a great shrub for the back of any sunny border and is a favourite for cottage garden designs. 3m x 3m.

Syringa vulgaris Katherine Havemeyer as with other lilacs is a hardy shrub preferring sunny sites or perhaps a little shade in reasonable, moist well drained soil. It will grow up to 3 metres so could be used as an informal colourful screen if required. Pruning should be carried out straight after flowering so that the following years buds can set on the old wood.
Syringa shrubs benefit from a generous mulch of well rotted compost applied in early Spring.
