Mahonia Winter Sun (Mahonia x media Winter Sun) Oregon Grape
A superb architectural Winter flowering shrub, slender spikes of bright yellow, lily-of-the-valley scented flowers appear from November until March, held above rosettes of lustrous deep green holly-like foliage. The long flowering season makes this handsome shrub a great plant for pollinating insects in Winter. After the flowers fade the deep purple berries will develop, finally ripening in the Summer they are very good for attracting birds. A worthy recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
Mahonia Winter Sun is the perfect shrub for a shady border where the leaves and flowers will lift the whole area, especially if paired with evergreen ground cover and Spring bulbs. They also grow well in sunny aspects provided there is some moisture in the soil, helped by applying a generous mulch in early Spring. 4m x 3m.
