Mahonia Soft Caress (Mahonia eurobracteata subsp. ganpinensis Soft Caress PBR) Oregon Grape

A first rate new shrub that won the Chelsea Plant Show ‘Plant of The Year’ in 2013. Mahonia are notoriously prickly having holly-like leaves, Soft Caress is completely spine free meaning this delightful and compact shrub may be planted next to paths and doorways where visitors can brush past them. Elegant racemes of scented bright yellow flowers appear from late Summer through to Autumn followed by colourful blue berries that ripen in Winter and are popular with birds.

This is a resilient little shrub with a multitude of uses, perfect for any mixed or shrub bed where the flowers come at just the right time when most other plants have finished their show. They would make first rate evergreen ground cover and due to its compact nature would be a great container specimen. Grows well in partial shade and perfectly happy in full sun provided the soil keeps some moisture during dry spells which can be ensured by mulching in spring. 100cm x 100cm
