This moderately sized hedging shrub is believed to be a cross between Golden Privet and Wild Privet, if this is the case it has certainly inherited some useful attributes from both parents. The foliage is suffused with bright golden yellow that becomes progressivly softer as the leaves mature, finally turning to lime green. This bushy plant is tough and easy to grow with excellent Winter hardiness and good drought resilience. Growing slightly smaller than the usual golden Privet, this plant makes an excellent and dense golden hedge as small as 60 or 70cm or as large as 2 metres or more, just trim them to your chosen height.
Vicary Privet also trims perfectly as a colourful topiary specimen and the golden foliage can be a useful backdrop in a shrub bed or mixed border, especially as a contrast next to dark leaved plants.

Like other varieties of Privet hedging plants, Ligustrum Vicaryi is a tough plant that will adapt to most situations, even on more exposed sites. Grow them in any soil type as long as good drainage is provided. These colourful shrubs will do well in full sun or partial/moderate shade.
Ligustrum Vicaryi can be maintained as a beautiful moderately sized hedge from 60cm or so up to two metres or more, so tall enough to give privacy or screening if required. Trim them as necessary during the season, trimming once each season will keep them in good order, twice a year will keep them very neat and tidy, more of a show garden look.
Vicary Privet would be a good choice to fill more difficult areas in larger groups, the shrubs would need little more than an annual trim to keep them looking tidy.
We recommend adding Rootgrow to the planting holes to give these shrubs the best possible start and encourage faster growth, once well established Ligustrum Vicaryi is a drought resistant and low maintenance shrub.
