This first-class shrub has received the coveted Award of Garden Merit (AGM) from the RHS and is one of our favourites here on the nursery when they flower each Spring. Prunus x Cistena makes a great feature plant in containers or borders, slowly growing to about 1.5m high and wide. It has a dense bushy habit and will make a delightful small hedge with the benefits of both spring flowers and colourful all-season burgundy-red foliage. As a hedge it can easily be maintained between 1 and 1.5 metres high. The plants have a moderate growth rate of 20-30cm per year, sometimes a little faster when the plants are young.
Prunus x cistena is a hardy and tough plant that is also drought resistant when established.
Prunus x cistena plants from Hopes grove Nurseries are always sold as sturdy potted specimens, suitable for planting at any time of year. We recommend adding Rootgrow when planting and keeping the plants well watered while they establish in their first season.
Purple Leaf Sand Cherry needs little maintenance shrubs and hedges should, like all plums, be pruned or trimmed as required in the hot weather of mid summer to reduce the risk of silver leaf disease.
A mulch in early spring will reduce weeds and help conserve water during hot weather.

Exceptions to our delivery charges are Scottish Highland and Isle of Wight delivery areas where we need to charge a little extra to cover the cost of deliveries to these outlying areas. We don’t currently delivery to other offshore addresses including Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Tall plants over 2.5 metres have to be delivered by our own specialised transport, our delivery area is limited to mainland England and Wales only.
Please note there is a minimum order value of £50 for orders containing smaller plants and £250 for orders containing heavier plants
