The Leylandii hedging conifers are the fastest-growing of all hedging plants and the best choice for tall screening, they are also evergreen so offer great privacy as a boundary hedge, provide excellent shelter as a windbreak and are the best choice for hiding unsightly buildings. Well established Leylandii hedges are one of the very best ways to supress the noise from busy roads and they are great for filtering pollution.
Leylandii hedges have fresh smelling foliage produced in sprays, it has a smell of citrus when crushed. They will grow in just about any soil and are suitable for almost any site including windy and exposed conditions.
Leylandii hedging has gained a bad reputation because of some well publicised cases where their growth has been allowed to get out of hand but if they are trimmed at least once a year this is one of the best and most robust hedging plants you will find. Leylandii has an enduring popularity because it has so many good points. These hedging conifers are easy to grow and come in a wide range of sizes, even the smallest plants will develop into a fine hedge within a few years with a little care, the larger sizes can give a good level of privacy from the moment of planting and the look of an established hedge after just a few months of growing season!
There are two main types of Leylandii conifer:
Green Leylandii (x Cupressocyparis Leylandii)
This is the fastest growing variety making 75-100cm of growth each year, if left untrimmed it will quickly develop into large columnar tree. The foliage remains a rich emerald green colour all year round. This is the most commonly planted variety growing into an attractive hedge or screen quickly, even in poor soil.
Gold Leylandii (x Cupressocyparis Leylandii ‘Castlewellan Gold’)
A slower growing variety when compared to green Leylandii but still making an impressive 60-75cm of growth each year putting it head and shoulders above most other hedging species. The new growth is golden yellow becoming more bronze coloured as it ages. This is another excellent evergreen hedge that is slightly easier to manage.

Delivery leadtimes update – April 2025
Spring is our busiest time of year and we are working through orders as fast as we can to get your plants delivered. To give you an accurate idea of when your order will arrive, these are the current leadtimes (delivery is 1-2 days after despatch):
– Orders containing only bare roots – despatch within 5 working days.
– Orders containing only root balls, or root balls and bare roots – despatch within 10 working days.
– All orders containing potted plants – despatch within 14 working days.
Delivery is free for most orders above our free delivery thresholds, these are displayed above our prices in the product listings and summarized below. If you don’t need that many plants it’s not a problem, you can choose to pay our delivery charge and only order what you need.
Delivery is convenient – no signature is required so you don’t need to wait in, we will leave your parcel in the safe place that you nominate.
Delivery is fast – because we pick orders daily from our own growing beds your plants only travel the small hop to our packing shed before being sent to you, they are usually delivered within 5-7 working days.
Delivery is reliable – we have been selling and delivering Hedging Plants to our customers nationwide since 1992. We have a lot of experience in packing them safely and only use tried and tested delivery partners.

Exceptions to our delivery charges are Scottish Highland and Isle of Wight delivery areas where we need to charge a little extra to cover the cost of deliveries to these outlying areas. We don’t currently delivery to other offshore addresses including Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Tall plants over 2.5 metres have to be delivered by our own specialised transport, our delivery area is limited to mainland England and Wales only.
Please note there is a minimum order value of £50 for orders containing smaller plants and £250 for orders containing heavier plants
