All newly planted trees should be staked and tied for at least their first couple of growing seasons, giving them the support to enable the root systems to spread and develop, in so doing creating an anchor firmly in the soil which therefore means it is able to successfully establish and grow. It is especially important to use a support and decent tree tie if the trees are being planted on a windy site.
When a newly planted tree or shrub is unsupported, it will simply rock in the wind causing the roots to move becoming looser in the ground rather than firmer, sometimes leading to a hole around the base of the plant causing waterlogging or drying out, making it incredibly difficult for the plant to survive. The tie we sell is made of a polycarbonate making it incredibly strong and durable, capable of withstanding extreme weather conditions, able to last in excess of 10 years meaning they can be re-used if required.
The tie is very simple in design, made up of a belt, buckle and collar, fitted in a figure of eight shape with the collar between the tree and the stake preventing the stake damaging the stem of the tree. It should ideally be used in conjunction with our rounded tree stakes possible fixed to the stake with a nail. The belt has slight stretch to it making it low maintenance only needing to be slackened occasionally although it is always a good idea to keep an eye on it on a regular basis as the tree is maturing, it also allows for a little tree movement helping the tree develop its own resistance.
