Stella Cherry Trees. Large fruited self-fertile variety producing very reliable crops of juicy dark red cherries in July.
A deciduous tree with a bushy habit and hardy throughout the UK. Cherry Stella has bright green foliage in spring and summer, produces beautiful white flowers in April and May and will reliably provide crops of juicy and sweet dark red fruit in late July.
It is a versatile tree that is suited for fan training or can be trained into a bush or pyramid if required. This popular tree is a recipient of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Stella Cherry Trees will thrive in moist well drained soil in a sunny position and is hardy through the UK. It will achieve a height and spread of 3 – 5 metres ultimately. Cherry trees appreciate good drainage, they also like a generous amount of garden compost or well rotted farmyard manure added to the planting hole – but do ensure it is well mixed with the surrounding soil. We also reccomend adding Rootgrow when planting to give your young tree the best start.
As with all fruit trees, its a good idea to keep the immediate area around the base of the tree completly clear of weeds and grass for the first few years. A generous mulch of bark chippings or a similar material will help conserve moisture in the first couple of seasons leading to faster establishment and earlier fruiting.
It is a self-fertile variety and so does not require another variety for successful fruiting.
Our Stella Cherry trees are grown on ‘Colt’ semi-dwarfing rootstock and sold as a sturdy 2 year old bare root bush tree, available in season from November until March – the ideal time for planting.
