Brown Turkey Fig Trees. A great specimen for a sunny South facing wall. Large brownish purple pear-shaped fruits with sweet red flesh. Very attractive foliage, self-fertile. Grows to 400cm.

Brown Turkey Fig Trees are one of the best for growing outside in the UK and has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.  It has very attractive foliage from Spring through to Autumn with deeply lobed leaves and produces fairly insignificant flowers at the end of the branches before pear shaped fruit that will turn from green to purple with a sweet red flesh when they are ripe in August and September.

The plant is hardy throughout most of the UK and enjoys a sunny position, particularly on a south facing wall.  The fig is tolerant of most soil types provided it is well drained and can be fan trained against a wall or fence if you wish.

Brown Turkey Fig Trees will grow to a height and spread of 2.5 – 4 meters over 10 – 20 years, many gardeners choose to grow them as a fan shape against a warm wall to maximise fruiting potential.

It is self-fertile and grown on its own roots. (unlike many fruiting trees that are grafted onto a rootstock). When planting we recommend adding Rootgrow to give your young fig the best start, keeping the immediate area around the young tree completely clear opf grass and weeds will help it establish more quickly and will often lead to earlier fruit production.
