Czar Plum Trees

This self-fertile popular plum variety has oval shaped ripe purple fruits. This early season reliable cropper is ideal for a cooking variety in your fruit tree collection.  The blossom is unusually large and showy for Plum blossom, white in colour.

Our Czar Plum Trees are grown on a semi-dwarfing St Julien A rootstock, the tree should make an ultimate height of 3-4 metres after ten years or so making them suitable for most gardens.

Czar plum trees are self-fertile and so a second plum tree variety is not required for pollination and successful cropping.

We supply our Czar Plum Trees as sturdy 2-year-old bush trees that have a clear stem with a number of branched above already developed, these trees are approximately 150cm in height when supplied.

Plum trees prefer a well-drained soil and will fruit best in a sunny situation so do try and plant away from other large trees or buildings.

Czar is firstly a Plum for culinary uses, the peel easily removes from the yellow flesh and the smaller stone inside allows the ultimate use of the fruit inside. It can be for eating but will require extra time on the tree for ripening. Czar is one of the best plums for using in jams and preserves.

The Czar differs from other plum varieties in that it will tolerate harsher colder weather and north facing situations. The blossom being semi frost resistant ensures a crop each year.

When planting your new Czar plum tree, we recommend using Rootgrow to give iit the best start. Its also a good idea to keep the base of the tree completely free of weeds and grass for the first few years, we recommend a circle of 0.5-1 metre across. If you cover this with a generous topping of bark chippings or a similar mulch (to conserve moisture) the tree will establish and bear fruit more quickly.
