Calamintha (Lesser Calamint)
These adorable sun loving perennials are perfect for smothering the soil in dry sunny areas of the garden. They are a magnet for all kinds of beneficial insects and especially Bees and Butterflies. Calamintha have beautifully aromatic foliage and from mid summer onwards the bushy clumps erupt with a long succession of tiny flowers, right through until Autumn. Compact and bushy clumps make this a good choice for gardens of all sizes. Combine them with earlier flowering perennials and bulbs for an all season display!
Types of Calamintha Ground Cover
Calamintha prefers well drained soil in full sun or just a touch of shade, the plants will grow into small clumps smothering the soil during the summer months before dying back down for the winter. Little maintenance is required other than removing the old foliage by cutting almost to ground level, a job best done in Spring so that the old dead foliage protects the crown of the plant during the coldest weather.
