Geum Mai Tai is a delightful ground cover perennial with a long season of interest. With rosettes of hairy, scalloped, fresh green leaves from early Spring followed by frilly semi-double flowers which open in a rich apricot colour and soften to pale melon with time, finishing as attractive fluffy seed heads. The flowers are carried on deep red stems from May to August. This elegant perennial brightens up a sunny garden border. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage a fresh flush of ongoing blooms. Bee’s love Geums as every long wiry stem produces multiple flowers for them to feast on.
Low maintenance, Geum Mai Tai will complement most gardens from a cottage style informal layout to more architectural planting schemes, ideal for the front or middle of a border partnered with hellebores, Hardy Geraniums, Carex grasses or Heuchera. They are also very effective planted in pots on the terrace or balcony – just remember to keep them well watered. Simply deadhead spent flowers to encourage a second, or even third flowering!

Geum Mai Tai ground cover will die back to ground level in Winter and fresh new growth will appear in Spring. They are happiest in full sun or partial shade and require moist but well-drained soil. They will not thrive in soil that becomes waterlogged. To maintain them simply cut back any tatty or brown foliage from the previous year in early Spring and divide any clumps that become congested in early Spring or late Autumn.
As a rough guide when planting Geum Mai Tai as ground cover – 4 plants per square metre is adequate with a little patience, 6 will give better coverage, and 9-12 will make a weed supressing carpet very quickly.
