Choisyas are from the Rutaceae family which was named after the herb Rue. Rue was previously widely used in herbal medicine. Native to southern North America and are commonly called Mexican Orange having flowers very similar to that of the related Orange and Kumquat. Choisya Aztec Pearl is an elegant small shrub making a neat shrub growing up to 2.5m round but can be kept at a smaller size if so wished.

Choisya Aztec Pearl plants can be enjoyed for long periods of time, producing masses of pink buds blossoming into a wash of clusters of citrus scented white flowers in late spring and early summer. These flowers will often persist for weeks with repeat flowering in late summer. The glossy leathery strongly aromatic leaves are made up of 3 to 5 narrow bright green leaflets giving a lovely back drop of colour to the flowers.

Choisya Aztec Pearl is an easy hedging plant to grow, being very low maintenance. It will thrive in a sheltered position in full sun, and most suited to the middle or back of a border or as a shrub in its own right. It will tolerate shade but flowering will not be as profuse in a shadowy area. A fairly fast growing shrub at approximately 30cm per year, if pruning is needed it should take place around April to May or after flowering.

We sell Choisya Aztec Pearl as a potted plant only which can therefore be planted at any time of year. Once delivered, if the time is not right for you plant them, they can be kept watered until you have the ground prepared to plant out.
