Thanks to the unwavering efforts of plant breeders, we now have many excellent and garden worthy varieties of Euonymus japonicus to choose from. Green Spire is a variety with smaller, deep green leaves of 2-3cm long appearing in pairs on a compact and bushy yet upright evergreen shrub.
Small yet perfectly formed foliage appears in opposite pairs on this bushy, upright evergreen shrub. The youngest growth is paler at first before maturing a to a rich deep green. Euonymus Green Spire has become of the most popular choices for low hedging owing to its moderate growth, ease of maintenance and being completely unaffected by the Box Blight and Box Caterpillar that have caused problems with many Box Hedges. This is a great choice for low hedges from 20cm to 100cm in height, easy to grow in normal soil in sun or partial shade.

Euonymus japonicus Green Spire will succeed in any reasonable garden soil, the only dislike would be poor drainage and waterlogging which this variety will not thrive in. As with all hedges large and small, preparation is everything. Aim to add a generous amount of organic matter digging the soil over to at least a full spades depth. A good quality slow-release fertiliser well mixed into the backfill soil is a good idea together with Rootgrow to give the new plants a great start. A mulch is also advisable after planting to retain moisture and deter weeds. These are smaller plants however so do take care that the mulch is not so deep as to cover the stems.
Euonymus Green Spire is a low maintenance hedge or shrub. To keep the lines of your small hedges sharp, the plants can be trimmed as needed during the growing season from spring until autumn provided there is no risk of frost. An annual feed with a good quality general purpose tree and shrub fertiliser applied as growth starts in spring will maintain the vigour of your Euonymus plants keeping them healthy and rich green in colour.

Exceptions to our delivery charges are Scottish Highland and Isle of Wight delivery areas where we need to charge a little extra to cover the cost of deliveries to these outlying areas. We don’t currently delivery to other offshore addresses including Northern Ireland and Southern Ireland.
Tall plants over 2.5 metres have to be delivered by our own specialised transport, our delivery area is limited to mainland England and Wales only.
