White Lavender Hedge, White Lavender (Lavandula Angustifolia Alba).
White Lavender isn’t as commonly known as the other Lavender varieties but with its low maintenance, mound like nature it would be as equally great as a staple for garden designs. It can be a striking yet gentle addition to borders or a wonderfully scented hedging along paths giving a nice twist to the classic English garden.
With a super sunny spot, little watering and very well drained soil you will be rewarded all year round with the silvery evergreen foliage after the summer’s flowers have had their show. Whether you are grouping together, lining courtyard gardens, fronts of cottage garden beds or dotting about in borders there will be an ideal spot for this beautiful plant.

White Lavender Hedging, White Lavender (Lavandula Angustifollia Alba).
This beautiful white flowering variety still has that recognisable Lavender scent that we all know and love. Its Summery dense upright flower spikes will grow up from a lovely mound of silvery grey evergreen foliage from June to August. Growing to 50cm tall the Lavender White looks stunning against the other more commonly used Lavender colours, an aromatic delight when planted en-masse.
This is a hardy low maintenance plant that will give a delightful contrast to colourful borders in sunny well-drained soil or knitted together as a hedge that will look great all year round. It will be super popular with bees and other pollinators, also great for anyone who likes to have the scent in and around the home with its many uses!
You can plant your evergreen Lavender White in any location that has as much sun throughout the day as possible. It will thrive in quite poor soils but really any soil that is well drained and does not become waterlogged – if it does, we would advise choosing another plant option as they would simply rot very easily. If you do have heavy soil, we advise mixing in plenty of grit and sand in the planting area to increase drainage. Make sure your soil is free of weeds and grass and dug over so it is as loose and crumbly as possible as this means your plants roots can most easily get established. Lavender White are pretty drought resistant, especially once established, and can be left to their own devices during long dry spells of weather. As a rule, they are hardy and generally pest and disease resistant.
White Lavender is available as top quality pot grown plants, ready for planting all year round.
To give your White Lavender hedging plants the very best chance to thrive it is always advisable to prepare the ground as well as possible and follow the planting guidance we e-mail on confirmation of your order. A hard copy of this planting guidance leaflet is also sent out with every order. We always recommend the use of the Mycorrhizal Fungi Rootgrow which enhances a plant root system and the use of the slow-release fertiliser Bonemeal to encourage faster establishment and a more drought resilient hedge with a stronger root system. Lavender is one of the few hedging plants we would not recommend mulching at the base.
Trimming a White Lavender hedge is the surest way of increasing the life span of your plants. They only flower on new wood so it is essential to prune them annually to maintain the best plant health. The golden rule with Lavender pruning is to cut only to a point where there are some small green shoots underneath and no further, you may be surprised how hard you can be and how far down the plant this is! If you do wish to be so harsh whilst there are still some late flowers, simply deadhead them and then wait until late spring and warmer weather before cutting back when you can see some new growth appearing.
