Physocarpus opulifolius Darts Gold (Ninebark)
A beautiful bushy growing golden Ninebark that is useful for brightening up any partially shaded bed or border. The young leaves are bright golden yellow at first before darkening to green-gold, contrasting with the dainty heads of pink tinted white flowers appearing in June. Good for a colurful informal hedge or screen. Physocarpus Darts Gold is best grown in partial shade – in full sun the foliage may scorch, and in dense shade the golden colour is compromised to shades of pale green. Despite its somewhat precise requirements, this is a very rewarding shrub to have in the garden bringing all season colour and height and looks particularly effective paired with darker leaved plants.

Physocarpus or Ninebarks are deciduous shrubs, easy to grow and tough. they are suited to all soil types but do like good drainage. Because they tolerate a wide range of conditions this is a good shrub for more difficult areas such as banks or dry areas (once well established). They look great partnered with other colourful shrubs or mixed in a perennial border where the richly coloured foliage will fit with many colour schemes .
Physocarpus opulifolius Darts Gold may be grown as a beautifully coloured hedge, by planting 3 of our sturdy shrubs per metre the hedge should develop within a few seasons with just a little formative trimming to the sides, once the desired height (we recommend 100-200cm) is reached these low maintenance shrubs need a single trim after flowering in early Summer to keep them looking good.
