Viburnum Plicatum Pink Beauty Hedging
Viburnum plicatum Pink Beauty (Japanese Snowball bush)
This magnificent shrub is in effect, a pink flowered variant of Viburnum plicatum Mariesii with the same heavily veined deep green foliage that changes to red and purple before falling in Autumn. It has the same tiered habit of growth, the branches become clothed with delicate white lacecap flowers during May that progressivly darken through soft blush pink to rich pink.
Viburnum Pink Beauty is a handsome shrub for a sunny mixed border, best planted where its beautiful shape can be appreciated, they are also well siuted to Japanese style gardens. While they may be used for informal screening, this is not really a hedging plant – clipping the shrubs would detract from its natural tiered shape and so pruning is usually limited to maintaining that shape should it be required.
