The Great White (‘Prunus Taihaku’) is a larger and more robust tree growing up to 12 metres producing very large brilliant white flowers (the largest of any cherry) in April and May, complemented perfectly by the rich bronzy-red of the newly emerged leaves. Coppery red peeling bark on older trees and beautiful yellow and orange autumn colours make this a tree for all seasons. Some 300 of these trees are planted in the Cherry Orchard at Alnwick to great effect.
