Fresh Pleached Lime Trees – Common Lime, Tilia x europaea ‘Pallida’

One of the most popular varieties of Lime also known as the Kaiser Linden or Kings Lime, this is a hybrid resulting from a cross between its parents the small leaf lime (Tilia cordata) and the large leaf lime (Tilia platyphyllos).

Common Lime is a deciduous tree and has lush green rounded/oval foliage which has a serrated edge and lighter yellow green on the underside, this variety comes into leaf slightly earlier than other Limes giving a longer season of interest. Clusters of sweetly scented pale green flowers appear in summer followed by pea sized fruits; the foliage turns to rich hues of buttery yellow before falling in autumn when the reddish young twigs become more conspicuous.

Tilia x europaea ‘Pallida’ will naturally grow into a large tree if not pollarded or pleached, conical when young but eventually becoming flatter headed.

The Common Lime is a great choice for Pleached Lime Trees as this variety is not prone to suckering from the ground and the young shoots are pliable and easy to shape and train.

Common Lime trees are easy to establish and should settle quickly in all soil types that do not become waterlogged. This variety is often used for formal tree avenues and are attractive to a wide variety of wildlife including bees and butterflies.

We supply Pleached Lime Trees as root ball stock available for delivery in season from November – March which is the correct time for planting. We also supply potted specimens that may be planted at any time of year.

Our Pleached Lime trees are all supplied as an espalier shape, meaning the young branches have been trained horizontally in layers on their bamboo frame, these trees make a splendid addition to the garden giving height and year round structure.

When planting all new Pleached Lime trees we strongly recommend adding rootgrow to give them the best start in your garden, its also worth adding plenty of good quality compost or well-rotted farmyard manure (well mixed with the soil). Full and easy to follow planting instructions are supplied with all orders including a hard copy for you to have handy.

Because of the size of our pleached Lime trees (they are too tall for any courier delivery service!) all our Pleached Trees are delivered by our own transport, direct to you straight from our nursery. We usually use our own Land Rover and trailer and will always call you to arrange a mutually convenient day first. Delivery is still free for these beautiful trees but as they require a more bespoke approach to delivery and we do need a minimum order of £1500 (ex VAT) to cover our costs. (We can often deliver smaller orders with a contribution towards delivery, please do call our sales team on 01580 765600 or take a look at our delivery page)

Pleached Lime trees are available for delivery to addresses in mainland England and Wales.
