Pleached Crab Apple Trees – Malus ‘Mokum’

The Mokum Crab Apple makes a wonderful pleached specimen, not only will these plants bring height and year round structure to your garden, there are the added benefits of the gorgeous pink blossom in spring and the colourful purple-red fruits later in the season, often persisting on the bare branches of this deciduous tree until winter. Mokum has a comparatively dense habit of growth making it well suited as a pleached specimen, it also has a good level of disease resistance, particularly to mildew and scab fungi.

Malus Mokum brings its extravagant pink blossom to the garden in Spring making an unusual departure from the normal white flowered varieties. The new foliage unfurls a rich purple-red at first before deepening to bronze-green although any new growth later in the season is still purple. Over the Summer months the flowers develop into large numbers of small purple-red crabapples giving further colour and interest. The crabapples are very popular with birds and are often retained on the tree after the leaves fall.

Malus Mokum pleached crab apple trees are naturally small and compact making them easy to maintain and a good pleached tree for smaller gardens, they will grow successfully in any soil that does not become waterlogged and are well suited to clay.

Our pleached Crab Apple trees are available as root ball specimens for delivery in season from November-March which is the correct time for planting, we also supply potted specimens that can be planted out at any time of year.

Pleached crab apple trees are best planted with rootgrow to give them the best start, its also a good idea to add plenty of good quality garden compost or well-rotted farmyard manure at planting time (well mixed with the surrounding soil).

Because of the size of our pleached Mokum Crab Apple trees (they are too tall for any courier delivery service!) all our Pleached Trees are delivered by our own transport, direct to you straight from our nursery. We usually use our own Land Rover and trailer and will always call you to arrange a mutually convenient day first. Delivery is still free for these beautiful trees but as they require a more bespoke approach to delivery, and we do need a minimum order of £1500 (ex VAT) to cover our costs. (We can often deliver smaller orders with a contribution towards delivery, please do call our sales team on 01580 765600 or take a look at our delivery page)

Pleached Crab Apple trees are available for delivery to addresses in mainland England and Wales.
