Pleached Red Sentinel Crab Apple Trees – Malus robusta ‘Red Sentinel’

Pleached Crab Apple trees make a wonderful garden specimen, not only will these plants bring height and year round structure/privacy to your garden, there are the added benefits of the gorgeous white blossom in spring and the colourful red fruits later in the season, often persisting on the bare branches of this deciduous tree until well into winter.

Malus ‘Red Sentinel’ produces large numbers of gorgeously scented, blushed white flowers emerging from pale pink buds in late Spring, just before the new leaves emerge. The flowers are followed by glossy pillar-box red fruits that persist on the tree well into winter to give extended interest.

The glossy leaves of this deciduous tree are coppery coloured at first before turning to mid green and finally bronzy-yellow hues before falling in autumn.

Malus ‘Red Sentinel’ pleached crab apple trees are naturally small and compact (like many crab apple varieties) making them easy to maintain and a good pleached tree for smaller gardens, they will grow successfully in any soil that does not become waterlogged.

Our pleached Red Sentinel Crab Apple trees are available as root ball specimens for delivery in season from November-March which is the correct time for planting, we also supply potted specimens that can be planted out at any time of year.

Pleached crab apple trees are best planted with rootgrow to give them the best start, its also a good idea to add plenty of good quality garden compost or well-rotted farmyard manure at planting time (well mixed with the surrounding soil). They also benefit from a generous layer of bark chippings or a similar organic mulch to retain moisture and discourage weeds in the early years after planting.

Because of the size of our pleached Red Sentinel Crab Apple trees (they are too tall for any courier delivery service!) all our Pleached Trees are delivered by our own transport, direct to you straight from our nursery. We usually use our own Land Rover and trailer and will always call you to arrange a mutually convenient day first. Delivery is still free for these beautiful trees but as they require a more bespoke approach to delivery, and we do need a minimum order of £1500 (ex VAT) to cover our costs.
