Incredibly hardy, these lovely trees deliver dazzling displays of deep scarlet-pink double flowers in May creating a stunning visual impact when planted in rows. Flowering Scarlet Hawthorn (Crataegus laevigata) is a deciduous ornamental tree with deep glossy green lobed leaves that appear in spring and are then followed by the gorgeous showy displays of flowers, these flowers make way for attractive red haws in autumn. This tough species will happily grow in almost any condition in full sun or partial shade, in most soils including, coastal, exposed, polluted or damp sites so are an ideal choice for planting in more challenging locations where other pleached trees may not fare so well. As their name suggests, their branches are clothed in spiny thorns that create a protective environment for wildlife, whilst the flowers and haws provide nectar and food for pollinators and birds.

Pleached Flowering Scarlet Hawthorn Trees are a super solution for bringing structure and height to your garden and provide privacy and beauty with their impressive display of flowers in May delivering a real wow-factor impact. Whether you have a smaller garden and want to have foliage without taking up too much ground space, wish to frame the top of a fence or wall to give additional privacy, or create a wonderfully striking avenue to lead from one area of your garden to another, these lovely pleached trees are a wonderful addition to any garden.

Flowering Scarlet Hawthorn pleached trees are generally low maintenance, but they do require occasional pruning. Late autumn to early spring tend to be the best months to thin out any overgrown branches or to remove any dead or diseased growth. These trees are available as pot grown specimens for delivery all year round on our nursery and can be planted throughout the year.

Pleached Flowering Scarlet Hawthorn trees are best planted with rootgrow to give them the best start, its also a good idea to add plenty of good quality garden compost or well-rotted farmyard manure at planting time (well mixed with the surrounding soil), and water consistently in the first year whilst they get establish. They also benefit from a generous layer of bark chippings or a similar organic mulch to retain moisture and discourage weeds in the early years after planting.
