Cytisus Shrubs

Cytisus (Broom)

These well loved and familiar garden shrubs are grown for their dazzling display of pea-like fowers that appear in May and June. Best grown in full sun they can bring a welcome burst of colour to beds, borders and Cottage Gardens. Low maintenance shrubs that are drought resistant when established.

Cytisus or Broom shrubs are very easy to grow, they don’t succeed in waterlogged soil but are otherwise unfussy. Grow in full sun for best results.

To keep the plants bushy, prune immediately after flowering back to buds or new shoots close to the base of the flowering stems (but not into the old wood). Not only will this maintain a good shape, it will also ensure a bumper crop of flowers the following Spring.
