Fatsia (Japanese Aralia)
Magnificent evergreens with remarkable large palmate leaves. In late Summer clusters of spherical creamy white flowers are produced, often followed by black seed pods. Fatsia shrubs are ideal for cheering a shady corner and they look great in good sized containers (although they will need more space planted out in the garden within a few years). They go well with Bamboos or Grasses and work with the hot colours of brightly coloured flowers, and of course they look just right in a jungle theme!
Suitable for apects of full sun and partial shade. Fatsia shrubs prefer a good well drained soil. Pruning is not normally necessary but the trimming of some shoots in late Spring may be necessary to maintain a good shape. Cold and drying winter winds may damage some foliage, again trimming in late Spring should improve the appearance and new growth will soon follow.
