Fatsia japonica (Japanese Aralia)
These handsome shrubs are popular on account of their lush and exotic looking evergreen foliage, the huge palmate leaves can be up to 45cm across, glossy and dark green in colour. In late summer these shrubs will produce racemes of rounded creamy white flowers, usually followed by black seedpods. Robust and fast growing, these exotic looking shrubs will soon colonise a shady (or sunny) corner and thet go very well with Bamboos, Ornamental Grasses and the hot colours of a tropical themed garden. They also make a great specimen for a large container although its likely it will need a new and larger home in the garden after a few years. 2.5m x 2.5m.

Suitable for apects of full sun and partial shade. Fatsia shrubs prefer a good well drained soil. Pruning is not normally necessary but the trimming of some shoots in late Spring may be necessary to maintain a good shape. Cold and drying winter winds may damage some foliage, again trimming in late Spring should improve the appearance and new growth will soon follow.
