A deservedly popular shrub with enchanting flowers, this cottage garden favourite has downy grey-green leaves making a great backdrop for a long succession of flowers from late Spring through to Autumn. The flowers are white with just a hint of purple flush, becoming deeper and darker towards the centre, a wonderful comibination. Ideal for any sunny spot in the garden, easy to grow and low maintenance, this is a more compact variety well suited to smaller gardens. 1.2m x 1.2m

Lavatera Maritima are easy semi evergreen shrubs to grow requiring little more than a sunny spot in soil that does not waterlog during the Winter. To maintain an attractive shape and to stop them getting straggly over time, prune hard to within 30cm of the base in Spring each year after the worst frosts have passed. The regrowth will be quick and prolific yielding large numbers of attractive Mallow flowers from June right through until Autumn.
On windy and exposed sites the long summer growth should be shortened by up to half in Autumn after flowering to prevent wind rock.
Lavatera Maritima are hungry plants and appreciate a generous mulch in spring, this can be done at the same time as pruning.
